At The Mercy Of Compassion
April 24, 2013
You might have already noticed but it's been a while since our last blog. The reason it's been so long is because the road has been bumpy here at Goodwill Globetrotting for the past few months. It's difficult motivating yourself to sit and write a blog when there is no happy ending and no photos full of hugs or smiling faces to attach within. We love to share our successes and adventures so that you know your support is not wasted and so that those who...
Goodbye, 2012; Hello, 2013!
January 11, 2013
Wow, is it 2013 already? To me that seems like a date they use in futuristic sci-fi novels. Well, the future is now and it seems like a good time for a Goodwill Globetrotting update. 2012 was a good year for us: we hit our 1 year anniversary, we learned a lot, we grew a lot and overall I think we were pretty successful.
This year for our holiday project we "adopted" a foster family in Round Rock. I started looking for...
All We Want For Christmas Is For You To Read This
December 2, 2012
Hello World,
It's Christmas season again and this time of year we all seem to be a little more aware of the needs of those around us. Over the past couple of years, we've developed a different perspective on the word "need" through our work with other non-profits. Working with orphans, refugees and the impoverished has taught us the true meaning of the word and drawn our attention to how...
What I Learned This Summer
November 5, 2012
As many of you already know, I spent this past summer (May - August) in Thailand and Cambodia working on behalf of Goodwill Globetrotting. What you're not aware of however, is just how much I learned over those four months. For some reason, it was even far more educational than our last work trip to Peru the summer before. Although that trip was also eye-opening, I learned so much in Cambodia about non-profits, businesses, people, and myself that...
K.I.D.S.
August 19, 2012 - Present
K.I.D.S. is a weekly event aimed at introducing various art forms to disadvantaged local children with the hope of sparking their imaginations and providing a rare afternoon of fun. Each lesson is taught by a guest artist with a specific talent to share and each week we invite a different group of kids from one of our member NGOs in the Siem Reap area. The classes are on sunday afternoons at Karavansara Retreat and after the creative lesson, the children are treated to a small lunch and then get to spend the rest of the afternoon swimming in the hotels rooftop swimming pools.
Capital Area Food Bank
June 16, 2012
On June 16th we gathered volunteers to help out at the Capital Area Food Bank in Austin, Texas. It was a small scale and casual even designed to promote the idea of volunteering within your community and to show people just how easy it is to lend a hand. Our small but dedicated group cleaned, sorted and packed 4,570 pounds of food. That's enough for over 600 meals in Central Texas!
You Are Lions! Let Us Hear You Roar!!
June 9, 2012
Less than a week ago I was so frustrated with progress here in Thailand that I swear I wondered if maybe I should just quit. Is all of this effort a waste of time? Is our idea flawed? Or, am I just the wrong man for the job? I can't tell you how many times last month I wondered if I was in way over my head. I don't have a college degree, I have no experience in the professional world to speak of, and I'm pretty much on the budget of a grad student forced to eat Ramen noodles every night. Anyway, none of what I just mentioned equals a traditionally successful recipe for selling a new non-profit organization...

Princess for a Day
April 3, 2012
Greetings friends and followers,
Our regular followers are aware that we were recently involved with a great Austin charity called Project Princess. For everyone else, a quick recap:
Months ago, as Goodwill Globetrotting was searching for Austin charities that we could partner with for projects, I came across Project Princess. Project Princess is a student run organization, carried out by the Lonestars from The University of Texas, that helps alleviate the expense of Prom by providing...

There have been many developments in the world of Goodwill Globetrotting over the past few months which makes this update long overdue. We have some very big news to share and also plenty of tidbits for those of you interested in our progress, plans, trials and tribulations. It's been my turn to blog since January so I'll take full blame for everything you should already know but don't. There's a lot to cover so let's get started, shall we?
A Very Merry Furaha House Christmas
January 5, 2012
Greetings friends! I hope everyone had safe and happy holidays. This was Goodwill Globetrotting's first holiday season and I can definitely say that it was a happy one. For those of you who support and follow us regularly you know that we organized a Christmas Toy Drive for the kids of Austin's Furaha House (African Family Center). Since Goodwill Globetrotting has only been in existence for about 9 months, we'd never done anything like this...
